What? Since 1903 when Andrew Carnagie’s donation of $25,000 made construction possible, Charlotte’s main library has stood at the corner of 6th and North Tryon Streets. The last incarnation of that building was demolished in 2023. Its replacement—an awe-inspiring fusion of architecture, books, technology, and civic gathering spaces designed by Snohetta, an internationally acclaimed architect—will open the spring of 2027.
